Dong Energy has notched first power from its under-construction 659MW Walney 3 wind farm in the Irish Sea.
The first of 40 MHI Vestas V164-8.0MW turbines (pictured) have begun exporting to the National Grid, the Danish company said. A further 47 Siemens Gamesa 7MW machines will complete the project.
Installation of the former turbines is ongoing at the project with Seajacks tackling the job.
Walney 3 programme director Anderw Cotterell said construction, which is being co-ordinated from Barrow, “is progressing well”.
