Ameren Missouri has unveiled plans to add at least 700MW of new wind power by 2020 and 100MW of solar over the next 10 years.
The new capacity will represent an investment of about $1bn with the projects to be located in Missouri and neighbouring states.
The company added that the turbines will be manufactured in the US, while the exact location of the wind farms is still “under negotiation with several developers”.
Planning is underway on two of the solar projects, with 50MW of the 100MW pledge expected to be online by 2025.
Ameren Missouri president Michael Moehn said: “This is Ameren Missouri’s largest-ever commitment to clean, renewable energy.
“We are committed to bringing our customers innovative solutions that are both cost-effective and environmentally responsible while maintaining the reliability our customers expect.”
