The Irish Government has launched a final public consultation on its plans to open a new renewable support scheme for onshore and offshore wind, solar and marine technologies.
Officials favour a new auction-based support mechanism to replace the current feed-in tariff, according to the energy department.
Future rounds may also be technology neutral, Dublin added.
The department said it “can further impose downward pressure on renewable electricity costs by designing a scheme that takes best advantage of falling renewable technology costs and increases public acceptance”.
The final design of the scheme will also aim to increase community and citizen participation in the low carbon energy transitions.
“Communities and citizens will actively participate in and benefit from renewable energy projects in their local area,” said the department.
The public consultation is open until 3 November.
