US developer NextEra Energy Resources plans to install GE turbines at the 90MW Cottonwood wind farm now under construction in southern Nebraska.
The project, located in Webster County, will comprise 40 2.3MW and 1.7MW machines, NextEra project manager Phil Clement told reNEWS.
Road and turbine foundation construction has started as well as substation and underground collection cable installation. Turbine erection is slated to start in September.
“Construction is going well,” said Clement. “We’re scheduled to be operational by the end of 2017.”
The $130m Cottonwood project qualified for 100% of the federal production tax credit, said Clement. The subsidy is scheduled to phase out by 2020.
The output will be sold to the Northeast Nebraska Public Power District and the cities of Fremont, Wayne and South Sioux City.
