Siemens Gamesa has secured a contract to repower two NextEra Energy wind farms in Texas, boosting output by up to 25% annually.
The wind farms have not been named but currently feature the manufacturer’s 2.3MW model with 93 metre rotors.
Power ratings will remain the same but the new machines will feature larger 108 metre rotors.
The number of turbines to be supplied has also not been revealed.
Siemens Gamesa said the move will up annual energy production, boost reliability and efficiency, and extend service life.
“Project completion is expected by year-end and the wind farms will remain operational during the repowering process,” the company added.
