Siemens is to rebrand its mechanical drives unit, which serves industries such as wind power, under the name Flender.
The unit has been operating as standalone business under the Siemens umbrella since earlier this year.
Siemens said the new setup is to be completed worldwide by mid-2018.
The company’s wind turbine gears business will be part of Flender and continue to operate under the Winergy brand, Siemens said.
Siemens Mechanical Drives chief executive Stefan Tenbrock said: “It’s an important step in our transformation into a stand-alone firm under Siemens, acting as a market leader for our customers worldwide and thinking like a mid-sized company.”
Flender was founded in 1899 and originally made wood pulleys. Siemens took over the company in 2005 and integrated it as part of the mechanical drives business unit.
