The European Investment Bank (EIB) has received a funding request to help develop several wind farms in Spain totalling 300MW.
The unnamed developers are seeking €165m from the EIB towards a total financing package of €298m for nine wind farms that would make up the Goya project in the Aragon region of Spain.
The bank said that only two of the nine plants have received environmental consent and so compliance with Environmental Impact Assessments and Birds and Habitats Directives will be appraised in detail.
The EIB said that, in particular, there will need to be cumulative impact assessments and examination of the effects on protected flora and fauna, including adjacent Natura 2000 sites.
The assessments will also need to cover plans for a 28km 220kV power line to connect some of the wind farms to the grid, EIB said.
