Clean power’s share of German electricity reached 35.1% in the first half of 2017, meeting the country’s 2020 target three years early, according to renewable energy association BEE.
Renewables accounted for 32.7 % of the mix in the first half of last year and 30.8% in the first six months of 2015.
BEE said it made the calculations using figures from renewables and energy associations, transmission system operators and government sources.
But, it added, the country could miss other renewables and climate targets for 2020 due to slow progress in the heating and transport sectors.
Onshore wind provided 39.75 terawatt hours (TWh) of consumed electricity in the first half of 2017, up from 34.71TWh in the same period last year.
