Bureau Veritas has developed standards for electric and hybrid power solutions that the company hopes will encourage wider uptake of energy storage systems.
The new class notations include power management, power back-up and zero emission standards, the company said.
Bureau Veritas business development manager Martial Claudepierre said: “Industry uptake of hybrid and battery technology has been driven by environmental regulation.
“But owners are also finding performance benefits and, for some operations, significant financial benefits seem likely – particularly as the availability of renewable energy increases.”
