UK outfit Eelpower has commissioned the 10MW Leverton battery storage facility in Lincolnshire.
The project will provide frequency response balancing services to National Grid from 1 January 2018, having secured a firm frequency response contract in October 2017.
The company also has a 15-year T-4 capacity market contract starting in October 2020.
Leverton uses lithium-ion batteries supplied by Chinese company BYD and was constructed within 18 weeks by Anesco.
It is connected to Western Power Distribution’s East Midlands grid.
Eelpower chief executive Mark Simon said: “Leverton is the first of a pipeline of battery storage projects that Eelpower plans to build and operate over the next three years.
“They will support the grid, underpin security of supply and help reduce energy costs for customers, in particular for businesses that are major energy users.”
