US company Skylar Resources has commissioned a 2MW battery storage solution for Californian utility Glendale Water and Power (GWP).
Battery specialists Saft America provided the hardware for the storage facility, which was installed at Glendale’s Grandview substation.
GWP said the new unit, which is integrated to renewable power sources, would help mitigate the impact of potential unplanned disruptions in service and help regulate its transmission system.
“This system is now one of the fastest responding storage systems for any municipal utility in Southern California,” said Skylar president William Perkins.
Skylar said it was in discussion with several other utilities about installing similar devices.
