WindEurope called today for a more flexible approach to renewable energy contracting for small and medium-sized companies buying clean power in the EU.
Such an approach would allow the market to “flourish beyond the major corporates”, Europe’s wind industry body said.
WindEurope also said a better a legal framework across the EU would also help more companies take up power purchase agreements (PPAs) for green electricity.
It added that only a small number of companies in Europe are currently involved in sourcing power from renewables.
WindEurope chief executive Gile Dickson (pictured) said: “Renewable PPAs help companies source the affordable power they want and at fixed prices reducing their exposure to volatile fossil fuel costs. But there are still barriers to PPAs.
“The Clean Energy Package is an opportunity to remove these and ensure PPAs can really flourish.”
