ABB has won a $30m contract from Svenska Kraftnät in Sweden and Energinet in Denmark to upgrade the control and protection system for the Konti-Skan HVDC transmission link.
Konti-Skan was built 52 years ago as the first electricity interconnection between Sweden and Denmark.
ABB will install its Mach control and protection system, which it said will extend the life of the link.
The system monitors, controls and protects the technology in the stations to ensure reliability and efficiency, and includes fault registration and remote control functions, the company said.
ABB power grids division president Claudio Facchin said: “We are delighted to implement our latest ABB Ability Mach control technology to upgrade this historic HVDC transmission link, facilitating more energy trading and exchange of renewables, bringing clean, reliable power supply to consumers.”
