Masdar and local environmental management company Bee’ah have set up a JV to build waste-to-energy plants in the United Arab Emirates.
The Emirates Waste to Energy Company will first develop a 30MW plant in Sharjah.
The plant is expected to treat over 300,000 tonnes of municipal solid waste each year.
On completion of the project, Sharjah will become the first city in the Middle East to achieve the target of 100% diversion of waste from landfill, the partners said.
