The Port of Milford Haven is to support Repetitive Energy’s development of the Smartstream vertical axis tidal stream converter prototypes in Pembroke dock.
The three-year project aims to produce a system specifically designed to operate in water, rather than adapted from existing technology in other industries, the port said.
Port of Milford Haven director of energy development Tim James said: “We are extremely pleased that Repetitive Energy are continuing their relationship with the Port of Milford Haven for the development of their prototypes.
“Their focus is closely aligned with our aims for the continued growth in Pembrokeshire’s marine energy industry, and the impact it will have on jobs and economic growth.”
The port is collaborating with the UK and Welsh governments as part of the Swansea Bay City Deal initiative to deliver a strategic investment to port and marine related infrastructure.
Repetitive Energy also wish to use a network of testing areas proposed by Marine Energy Wales as part of the initiative.
