Labour’s Rachel Reeves has been elected chairwoman of the Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy select committee.
The Leeds West MP beat off other Labour nominees Liam Byrne, Ian C. Lucas and Albert Owen to the position.
The House of Lords EU Energy and Environment Sub-Committee has meanwhile launched an inquiry into the implications of Brexit for UK energy security.
Evidence submissions are due by 25 August on topics including membership of the Internal Energy Market, interconnection with the EU and energy arrangements on the island of Ireland.
Oral evidence sessions will take place during the autumn starting from September.
