Carnegie Clean Energy has started measuring wave resources at a site off Albany in Western Australia proposed for the installation of its 1MW Ceto 6 device.
The company has installed a wave buoy at the site 1.5km off the Albany wind farm in 30-metres of water.
The buoy is now transmitting data to the Ceto 6 team, Carnegie said.
The data will be used to validate the metocean modelling performed at the deployment site and will be fed into the detailed design phase of the Ceto 6 unit.
Carnegie received A$15.75m in funding from the Western Australian state government for the project.
The Albany wave project will be the first offshore demonstration of the Ceto 6 technology, which is expected to be deployed in late 2019 or early 2020.
