Naval Energies and EDF Energies Nouvelles are cutting short testing of two tidal turbines at Paimpol-Bréhat off Brittany in France.
The companies had been planning to put the two 500kW Arcouest turbines back into the water this year and next.
“We have gathered enough data and additional testing wouldn’t provide new insights,” a Naval Energies spokesman told reNews.
The machines were removed from the site in late 2016 and earlier this year, after the rotors stopped functioning properly.
Each turbine had been tested for more than a year. They have since been under repair in the port of Cherbourg.
Naval Energies, also jointly with EDF EN, is planning to construct the 14MW Normandie Hydro tidal test farm at Raz Blanchard in Normandy, France.
The first turbines will be installed in late 2019, with the whole project scheduled to be up and running by the end of the following year.
Naval Energies said it remains committed to continuing its 2MW tidal demo at Cape Sharp at the Bay of Fundy in Canada.
It will also provide a 2MW tidal test turbine for a project off Japan.
