EEW has loaded out the first XL monopile for Eon and Statoil’s 385MW Arkona offshore wind farm in the German Baltic Sea.
The manufacturer is fabricating 60 foundations for the project with diameters of up to 7.5 metres and total weight of up to 1200 tonnes.
EEW said that since production started in 2016 some 53,000 tonnes of steel has been processed.
Units feature an innovative thermal sprayed aluminium coating, a first for the offshore wind industry.
Due to their high weight per unit, monopiles will be loaded with a tandem lift with one loadout per day scheduled.
Foundations will be floated to the construction area for installation by Van Oord vessel Svanen in waters up to 37 metres deep.
