EEW SPC has welcomed an agreement with Vattenfall to deliver 112 monopiles for the Nordlicht 1 and 2 offshore wind project in the German North Sea.
EEW SPC was nominated as a preferred supplier for Vattenfall’s scheme last October and will process around 141,000 tonnes of steel for the project.
The 980MW Nordlicht 1 offshore wind farm will have 68 monopiles, while Nordlicht 2, with a 630MW connection, will stand on 44 foundations.
The steel will be produced at EEW SPC’s Rostock site and the monopiles will all have a diameter of 10 metres.
It marks the fifth offshore wind project that EEW SPC is managing for Vattenfall.
Head of project management at EEW SPC Sebastian Mönnich has managed all of these to date.
He said: “We are delighted that we are now managing our fifth offshore wind project for Vattenfall as part of our well-established partnership.
“This project also contributes to the further expansion of renewable energies in the German North Sea.”
Pending a final investment decision, which is expected in 2025, offshore construction for Nordlicht 1 and 2 is anticipated to begin in 2026, with full operational status expected by 2028.
Vattenfall is developing and building the Nordlicht cluster, with BASF as a key partner owning 49% of the projects.
Production at EEW SPC’s Rostock plant is planned from the end of 2025 to mid-2027.
Scheduled for commissioning in 2028, the projects in the German North Sea will generate enough green energy to meet the electricity demands of over 1.7 million German households.
