Canadian Solar has started commercial operations at four solar plants in Japan totalling 52.5MW.
The projects are the 47.7MW Mashiki, 2.4MW Yamagata Asahimachi, 1.3MW Shizuoka Tashiro and the 1.1MW Saitama Shiroishi plants.
Electricity generated by Mashiki will be bought by Kyushu Electric Power under a 20-year feed-in-tariff contract at the rate of ¥36 ($0.32) per kilowatt hour (kWh).
The Yamagata Asahimachi, Shizuoka Tashiro and Saitama Shiroishi plants will also sell power under 20-year feed-in-tariff contracts at the rates of ¥32, ¥36 and ¥27 per kWh respectively.
Canadian Solar chairman and chief executive Shawn Qu said: “This is a milestone as we continue to make progress in developing and delivering our high-value solar project pipeline in this important market.”
