GE Renewable Energy’s LM Wind Power business has started wind turbine blade production at a new factory at Bergama in Turkey.
The facility is expected to have capacity of 500MW a year, with the capability to expand to 1.5GW.
Bergama is the first new manufacturing plant to open since GE acquired LM earlier this year.
The $50m plant will create up to 450 jobs for the region, ranging from manufacturing to technical engineering, services, administration and ancillary support.
It will produce blades up to 80 metres in length, LM said.
LM Wind Power chief executive Marc de Jong said: “We continue our growth into a new country and this is a very attractive location for operations like ours.
“We have invested significant time and resources in Bergama and look forward to grow the wind industry with several partners and customers going forward.”
