Turkey’s the Renewable Energy Resource Area (YEKA) wind auction, with winning bids being submitted over five projects with a total capacity of 1200MW, has concluded.
Enerjisa Üretim was the biggest winner, securing 750MW over two projects, with RT Enerji, Efor Holding and ADY Akdeniz the remaining three successful bidders.
Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar (pictured) said that the competition held with the new YEKA model is important in terms of showing confidence in Turkey’s energy sector, Turkey’s economy and growth.
Minister Bayraktar added that there was 18 times the demand for the capacity of 1200MW and that the competitions were held in a very competitive environment.
He said: “We will meet the electricity needs of 2 million households from these wind power plants.
“If you think about the next 20 years, we will prevent approximately 8 billion dollars of natural gas imports.”
As a result of the competitions, a total investment of S$1.2bn dollars will pave the way for the projects in three regions.
Successful bidders will be able to sell the electricity they produce in the free market for 72 months from the contract signing date.
Then, the electricity produced for 20 years will be transferred to the transmission system at the determined price.
