Regulators in Taiwan have called for the developers of nine proposed offshore wind farms off the coast of Changhua to provide more information on the projects’ environmental impact, according to local media reports.
The projects’ environmental impact assessments (EIA) failed a committee review by the Environmental Protection Administration (EPA), the report said.
The EPA said that the developers had not provided adequate analysis of the impact the projects would have on migrating birds and other wildlife or had provided adequate response measures, the report added.
The developers have been asked to submit more detailed EIAs by 30 September, the report said.
According to the report, the wind farms are the two Hai Long developments proposed by Singapore’s Yushan Energy and Canada’s Northland Power, three projects by Hai Ding Offshore Wind Energy, and four schemes by “Greater Changhua’s Northwest/Northeast/Southwest/ Southeast Offshore Wind Power Corp”.
