UK outfit Allen Archaeology are to carry out pre-construction investigations along the onshore cable route of Innogy and Statkraft’s 900MW Triton Knoll offshore wind farm, which will be located off the Lincolnshire coast.
The £500,000 contract is largest awarded so far for work on the project.
Investigators will dig up to 300 trenches measuring approximately two metres wide and between 30 to 50 metres in length.
The works will identify and protect any sites containing valuable historical finds before onshore cabling work starts.
Ecology surveys will also be carried out along the cable route, the Triton Knoll team said.
Pre-construction works will last until early next year, with onshore construction works kicking off as early as mid-2018.
The Triton Knoll team said they were collaborating with the Viking Link interconnector scheme as both projects will connect to the National Grid substation at Bicker Fen.
The 760km long undersea cable will be capable of sharing 1.4GW of energy between Denmark and the UK.
