IHC new Hydrohammer pile-driving system has successfully installed its first offshore wind monopile foundation in the German North Sea.
Business unit IHC IQIP supplied the S-4000, the largest available impact hammer on the market, to GeoSea for duty at Northland and RWE’s 332MW Nordsee 1 project.
IHC said the hammer (pictured) has a strike power of 4000kJ and a slim design that facilitates easy handling.
A total of 10 monopiles have been installed using the device, with the first 30 driven with the Hydrohammer S-3000.
“We are delighted that the S-4000 is already proving a success for GeoSea,” said IHC. “The experience and expertise that has gone into the design of the S-4000 will allow us to operate effectively on future projects all over the world, regardless of the conditions.”
