IQIP, EnBW and Vattenfall will carry out a full-scale offshore monopile installation using EQ-Piling technology at the Dreekant wind farm in Germany.
The installation will take place in the coming month subject to final permits and marks a step towards commercialisation of the low-noise method, the partners said.
IQIP has contracted DEME to execute the installation using its offshore vessel Orion, they added.
The demonstration aims to validate reduced noise levels without the need for additional bubble curtains, lowering both noise and CO2 emissions.
The project builds on a previous inshore demonstration at Maasvlakte 2 in Rotterdam.
Vattenfall is supporting the project as consortium partner alongside IQIP and EnBW.
“We have strong confidence in the technology’s potential and commercial application. With the full-scale monopile installation, we will demonstrate that EQ-Piling lives up to its promise of being significantly quieter,” said Robert Diepenbroek, chief executive IQIP.
“We will enable a reduction in CO2 emissions by removing the need for additional bubble curtains and the vessels that support them.”
“At Vattenfall, we advance offshore wind as a key enabler of the energy transition through European industrial capability and genuine innovation,” said Cyril Moss, executive project director for Nordlicht I and II at Vattenfall.
