Belgian transmission system operator Elia has inaugurated the onshore section of Stevin project that will connect new offshore wind farms off Belgium to the mainland grid.
Offshore wind energy will be integrated through a double 380kV line that runs for 47km via Zeebrugge to Zomergem to distribute electricity across the Belgian network.
The project was supported by a €100m loan from the European Investment Bank.
The Stevin link will also integrate with the future Nemo project, which will exchange energy between the UK and the Belgian electricity network.
