The Port of Esbjerg has started a process to examine expansion possibilities to help cope with increased activity towards 2030, both in existing and new business areas.
The port said that in the next few years it expects to be fully utilised and so needs to expand by approximately 1 million square metres and 1km of quay between 2022 to 2030 to meet future growth.
A formal environmental impact assessment process, including public consultations, is expected to start in the early autumn, it added.
Port of Esbjerg director Ole Ingrisch said: “We anticipate growing demand for areas at the port. Therefore, we must prepare for the future and clarify the possibilities for continuing a stepwise expansion of the port.
“This will enable us to expand concurrently with the demand of our customers.”
