Estonian manufacturer Eleon is working with international partners to develop a wind turbine with capacity of over 10MW.
The company said the partners have filed an application with the European Commission under the Horizon 2020 project to develop a Mammout 10MW plus onshore and offshore wind turbine.
The €38m project aims to develop the hardware between 2018 and 2022.
The consortium also includes German companies Windnovation Energineering Solutions, Windrad Engineering and PE Concepts, as well as Estonian companies Civitta Eesti and Meta Advisory Group OU.
The Aalto and Tampere universities of Finland and Rostock University in Germany are also connected with the project.
Eleon said the turbine will be based on its patent for a single-side direct-drive concept.
The company said a 3MW prototype (pictured) has been successfully operating in Saaremaa.
