An EDF wind farm in County Durham was unaffected by an fault with electricity infrastructure that was reported locally to have caused a fire.
The company made clear that its four-turbine Trimdon Grange project is operating normally and not impacted in any way by the issues.
“There has been no fire or issue at Trimdon Grange,” said EDF.
A Northern Powergrid spokeswoman said the fault on a cable termination box – where the underground and overhead network join – had caused an outage on their network at nearby Trimdon Station.
“Customers in the immediate area may have seen some arcing and sparks from the equipment located on our wooden pole, for a few seconds at the time of the fault, just before our circuit breaker activated to safely switch the power off,” the spokeswoman said.
