Dutch manufacturer Lagerwey is partnering with the Energy Research Centre of the Netherlands (ECN) and Hygro to develop a wind turbine to produce hydrogen fuel for vehicles.
Lagerwey will convert a 4.8MW machine to incorporate electrolysis technology to produce hydrogen for the Duwaal project in North Holland, which is led by hydrogen supplier Hygro.
The turbine project is set to start in 2019, Lagerwey said.
It will be demonstrated on ECN’s wind turbine testing field at Wieringerwerf, the company added.
