KK Wind Solutions inks hydrogen framework with Stiesdal

KK Wind Solutions has signed a framework agreement with Stiesdal Hydrogen to deliver power supply units and cooling solutions for a modular green hydrogen plant concept designed to cut costs across the sector.

The Ikast-based company said the partnership will support Stiesdal’s turnkey hydrogen plant model, which targets significant capital expenditure reductions, with costs expected to fall below €1000 per kilowatt.

KK Wind Solutions, a global provider of power, control and cooling technologies for renewable energy, will supply Power Supply Units and Electrolyser Control Systems tailored to site-specific conditions. The systems will manage dynamic renewable inputs, ensuring stable operation and maximum efficiency of the electrolysis process.

The company has already delivered several PSUs and control systems to Stiesdal Hydrogen, with the new framework covering future projects built on standardised 3.1MW electrolyser modules that can be scaled from 12.4MW to larger capacities.

The agreement will also draw on cooling technologies from Nissens Cooling Solutions, which KK Wind Solutions acquired earlier this year. Together, the integrated systems are designed to enhance performance, efficiency and safety in demanding operational environments.

Michael Ariel Nielsen, vice president of business development at KK Wind Solutions, said: “By combining the PSU and Electrolyser Control System and harvesting the synergies from the cooling technologies acquired through Nissens Cooling Solutions, we are uniquely positioned to provide comprehensive power electronic and thermal management solutions for the green hydrogen sector.

“This framework agreement demonstrates how our combined expertise enables stable and efficient hydrogen production, supporting the transition to a sustainable energy future. Thank you to Stiesdal Hydrogen for your continued partnership and innovation in driving forward this important industry.”

KK Wind Solutions and Stiesdal Hydrogen have collaborated since 2021 to develop new power conversion and control technologies for the green hydrogen sector. In 2023, the companies successfully produced their first kilogram of green hydrogen at a pilot project in Denmark.

The partners said combining advanced power conversion systems with next-generation cooling technologies represents a key step toward scaling affordable, renewable-based hydrogen production in Europe.
