The Nordex Group has launched a new 140-metre rotor version of its AW3000 turbine platform.
The German manufacturer said the AW140/3000 is optimised specifically for low wind conditions.
The new rotor adds 12% more swept area and increases annual energy production by between 4.5% and 6.5% than the AW132/3000 model, the company said.
The AW140/3000 will be available on 120-metre concrete towers, as well as steel towers with hub heights from 82 to over 100 metres, Nordex added.
A prototype will start operating in mid-2018, with type certification expected in the same year.
Production is scheduled to start in autumn 2018.
Nordex chief sales officer Patxi Landa said: “The AW140/3000 adds to the range of products we have to reduce the cost of energy in the low wind high capacity factor segment typical of certain grid-constrained non-European markets.”
The AW3000 platform also includes the AW116 and AW125 models.
