Siemens Gamesa is to develop a 78.8MW wind-solar hybrid project in the state of Karnataka in India.
The company will provide an end-to-end turnkey solution to connect a 28.8MW solar project to an existing 50MW wind farm.
Siemens Gamesa will handle the design, engineering and commissioning of the new solar plant – including supply of photovoltaic inverters made by Gamesa Electric.
The company will also connect it to the wind farm, which features Siemens Gamesa turbines.
The project, which will be the first large-scale solar-wind hybrid scheme in India, is scheduled to be up and running by the end of 2017.
Siemens Gamesa onshore business chief executive Ramesh Kymal said: “This is a very important milestone for our company. We are truly proud to be rolling out this new hybrid solution – namely the optimal combination of solar and wind power technology – on a commercial scale.”
