Blade access and repair specialist Altitec has set up a subsidiary in South Africa, based in Cape Town.
The company said Altitec South Africa will offer blade inspection and repair services across sub-Saharan Africa, as well as provide certified training courses to help new technicians enter the industry.
The subsidiary has been established in the wake of the signing last year of a joint venture agreement with Obelisk, which provides infrastructure services to the renewables market.
Altitec managing director Tom Dyffort said: “Wind power has great potential to become a significant part of South Africa’s energy mix.
“Equally, and as markets across sub-Saharan Africa expand, and the number of wind turbines and rotor blades increase, high quality blade repair and maintenance programmes will be key to ensuring this energy source delivers reliably.”
