PNE Wind and subsidiary Energy Consult are to deploy an ‘on demand’ night lighting warning system at the company’s wind farms in the district of Cuxhaven in Germany.
The system, which has been developed by Quantec Sensors, will replace permanently flashing red lights used to warn aircraft approaching the wind farms.
It ensures that the wind farm warning lights only come on when an aircraft is approaching the project.
Air regulations stipulate that red night lighting must be employed at wind farms of over 100 metres in height, PNE said.
The new system is able to jointly control lighting at several projects in a region, the company said.
PNE Wind executive board member for operative transactions Kurt Stürken said: “Using demand-oriented night lighting which only sends out red signals if an aeroplane is approaching, we also react to the requests from the general public and from politicians.”
