Asian developer Equis Energy has signed a power purchase agreement with state-backed utility PT PLN for four solar PV projects in Indonesia with a combined capacity of 42MW.
The deal covers the 21MW Minut project in North Salawesi, set to be the nation’s largest solar development, and three 7MW sites in Lombok.
Separately, Equis is developing another 337MW of solar projects and 840MW of wind projects in the south east Asian country.
“With a rapidly expanding economy, Indonesia has made a strong commitment to renewable energy,” Equis chairman David Russell said.
President Joko Widodo’s wants to add 35GW of new energy production capacity by 2019, by which time the country also hopes to source 23% of its power from renewable sources.
Construction of all four solar projects is expected to commence in the second half of 2017, ahead of their commercial operation in 2018.
