Orsted is looking to progress an up to 573MW Race Bank extension wind farm off east England with a view to starting construction in the North Sea “post 2020”.
The developer said the project will be located adjacent to its existing 573MW project, which went into operations earlier this year.
“Securing another potential project underlines Orsted’s continued commitment to the UK’s energy transition,” said UK managing director Matthew Wright.
The developer is to start developing detailed plans for the site, including exact size and turbine number following the Crown Estate’s Habitats Regulations Assessment, which is expected to take six to nine months.
The developer said it was looking to bid the project into future Contracts for Difference rounds “subject to all necessary consents being granted”.
