Energiekontor has halted operations at one of its wind farms in Lower Saxony, Germany, due to a rotor blade snapping off one of the turbines at the site.
The Alfstedt-Ebersdorf wind farm is equipped with eight GE 5.3-158 units.
No personal injuries occurred and Energiekontor said the cause of the damage is not yet known and is being investigated.
Debris from the broken blade were scattered around the immediate surroundings.
As a first step, the affected wind turbine was cordoned off and immediately after the incident occurred, Energiekontor instructed all the wind turbines in the park to be shut down for safety reasons.
It has requested GE Wind Energy to conduct a rapid and comprehensive analysis of the damage caused to the turbine concerned.
Energiekontor only recommends restarting all turbines after an independent expert has determined that there is no threat of comparable damage to these turbines.
Energiekontor is also in close contact with the municipality and the relevant authorities and has asked any affected farmers and land owners to report any damage to the company.
