Spain has provisionally allocated €212 million from its Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan to adapt six ports for offshore wind and marine energy development.
The government said the ports of Gijón, Las Palmas, Tarragona, Castellón and the group formed by the ports of A Coruña and Ferrol-San Cibrao are proposed beneficiaries of the PORT-EOLMAR programme.
The Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge added that the funding aims to strengthen logistics capacity and the national value chain for manufacturing and assembling offshore wind turbines and marine energy equipment.
The selected ports must also present industrial projects linked to the marine renewables value chain with investments comparable to or greater than the aid received and with a minimum duration of 10 years.
The ministry said the projects are intended to create logistics bases for the construction, assembly, commissioning, repair and maintenance of future offshore wind farms and marine renewable energy components.
The facilities are expected to provide berthing lines, work surfaces and logistics infrastructure capable of handling large vessels, turbines and floating and fixed offshore platforms.
