RWE has completed and commissioned its 36MW Camster II onshore wind farm in Caithness, Scotland.
The project was consented in July 2021 and began construction in 2023, first generating electricity in March 2026, RWE said.
Camster II is now fully operational and can power around 51,000 typical homes, the company added.
The wind farm consists of 10 turbines and is RWE’s fourth operational site in Caithness.
Principal contractor Farrans supported over 50 roles during construction and appointed 54% of subcontractors from within 20 miles of the site.
Camster II will use locally based engineers and experts for operations and maintenance.
“By completing Camster II we’ve once again demonstrated RWE’s expertise in delivering onshore wind farms, while creating meaningful value for local communities and economies,” said Sopna Sury, chief executive RWE Renewables Europe & Australia.
“Each turbine that’s turning is a visible sign of RWE’s continued progress in onshore renewables and is a tremendous success for our teams on site, for the communities in Caithness and for Scotland’s energy transition.”
RWE is developing a community benefits package for the Caithness region in consultation with local stakeholders.
“We are delighted to see Camster II now supplying homes and contributing to our national renewable energy targets,” said Patrick Murray, regional director for Farrans.
Through Camster II, RWE’s total annual contribution to Caithness community funds will exceed £580,000.
