Statkraft has secured planning consent for the 30MW Alleston Solar Farm between Lamphey and Pembroke in Wales.
The company said the project will power the equivalent of up to 14,000 Welsh homes once constructed and help meet national and local renewable energy targets.
Planning consent was granted by Planning Inspectors appointed by Welsh Government Ministers following an application submitted to Planning and Environment Decisions Wales in December 2024, Statkraft added.
The site is located close to the Pembroke Dock-Carmarthen railway line and was selected for its potential to deliver renewable electricity to the grid.
Statkraft engaged with local communities during the development process, holding consultation events in Pembroke, Pembroke Dock and Lamphey in Autumn 2023 and further pre-application events in October and November 2024.
The updated plans incorporated changes following community feedback, including measures to enhance local biodiversity.
The project will also include a re-routed public right of way, a new orchard and around 1.4km of new hedgerow planting.
Alleston Solar Farm will provide annual Community Benefit Funding during its 40-year operational period.
Construction of the scheme is expected to begin in 2028.
“We are delighted to have secured consent for our first solar project in Wales. Alleston Solar Farm will make a significant contribution towards greater energy security, with more home-grown power helping keep bills stable for consumers and businesses, reducing our reliance on expensive and volatile overseas gas supplies,” said Gui Zandomeneghi, Statkraft’s principal solar project manager.
“This project will also deliver considerable community funding, as well as providing other local benefits such as boosting wildlife. We are committed to being a good neighbour and look forward to continuing to build a close relationship with the local community as we work towards construction.”
