DNV certifies X1 Wind X100 floater design

X1 Wind has received a Statement of Compliance for the basic design of its X100 floating wind platform from certification body DNV.

DNV said the certification was conducted according to the DNV-SE-0442 standard for the certification of floating wind turbines.

The body added the assessment confirms the X100 design meets international safety, engineering and technical requirements.

The approval verifies the platform’s structural design, stability and hydrodynamic behaviour, including its response to extreme waves, wind and currents.

DNV also verified the calculation methodologies used by X1 Wind and the design of the station-keeping system, weathervaning structure and turbine integration for a service life of 25 years.

X1 Wind said the approval will accelerate certification of its commercial-scale units, including the larger X150 platform designed for 15MW to 20MW turbines.

The X100 platform is planned for deployment at the PLEMCAT test site in the Spanish Mediterranean Sea as part of the NextFloat project.

NextFloat is led by Technip Energies and X1 Wind and aims to accelerate the industrialisation of floating wind and reduce its levelised cost of energy.

“Completing Basic Design certification for the X100 platform is a major milestone for X1 Wind,” said Carlos Casanovas, chief technology officer and co-founder of X1 Wind.

“It demonstrates that our innovative design meets the highest international standards whilst greatly reducing the costs of floating offshore wind.”

“We are proud to lead the NextFloat Project and partner with X1 Wind in this journey,” stated Jaques Vendé, NextFloat project manager and senior project manager at Technip Energies.

“The X100’s design certification reflects the robustness of its platform and the collaborative effort of all partners involved.”
