Sonnedix has completed financial close for its first hybrid battery energy storage projects in Portugal.
The financing covers the Sonnedix Acail project with 28MW of solar and 24MW of battery storage and the Sonnedix Felgueiras project with 40MW of solar and 32MW of battery storage, the company said.
Sonnedix added that solar generation at the projects is expected to begin in the second quarter of 2026, with battery systems due to start operating in the third quarter.
The company described the deal as one of the first structured financings with commercial banks in Portugal for hybrid solar and battery storage projects.
Both projects were designed as hybrid facilities from the construction phase to enable joint operation and improve alignment between generation and electricity demand.
Sonnedix said the approach aims to optimise energy management and support the integration of renewable power into the grid.
Sonnedix entered the Portuguese market in 2022 and currently operates 301.3MW of capacity in the country.
The company also has a construction and development pipeline of more than 300MW in Portugal.
“The closing of this financing represents a decisive step in consolidating our hybridisation strategy in Europe,” said Axel Thiemann, chief executive officer of Sonnedix.
“The integration of storage within our renewable assets allows us to offer greater flexibility, optimise the value of our portfolio, and contribute tangibly to the stability of the Portuguese electricity system.”
