US Interior Secretary Doug Burgum has said the Trump administration will appeal the injunctions granted to the five US offshore wind farms under construction.
Burgum made the remarks speaking to Bloomberg Television this week.
Burgum was asked whether or not the administration will appeal injunction against the enforcement of a December order stopping work at Orsted’s 924MW Sunrise Wind and 704MW Revolution Wind, Dominion’s 2.6GW Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind, Equinor’s 810MW Empire Wind, and CIP/Iberdrola’s 806MW joint venture Vineyard Wind 1.
“Absolutely, we are,” Burgum said.
“I’m sure as we get into court and have sessions and share classified information, there will be further discussions on this,” the Interior Secretary said.
“People are saying that ‘oh, this is some ideological attack on offshore wind’. No, this is a real genuine concern,” he added, and again raised the spectre of drone attacks made possible by radar disruption from turbines.
Work has restarted on all five projects stopped by the December order.
