The licence covers a 206km² area and marks the company’s second offshore wind project in Australia following the 1.3GW High Sea Wind project in Gippsland.
Ocean Winds said Westward Wind is now part of its global development portfolio.
The company added that over its operational lifetime the project is expected to avoid up to 24 million tonnes of CO2 emissions.
Ocean Winds stated that the development will help shape Australia’s offshore wind future as part of the country’s energy transition.
