Skyborn has signed a cooperation agreement with German transmission system operator 50Hertz to build and operate two offshore substation platforms for the Gennaker wind farm in the Baltic Sea.
It defines key aspects for the construction, installation and maintenance of the two platforms, named OSS Zingst and OSS Darß.
The equipment is currently being built at shipyards in the Netherlands and will have a combined grid connection capacity of up to 927MW, according to 50Hertz.
Gennaker will comprise 63 15MW turbines off the coast of the Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula.
The wind farm received full approval from the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in December last year and installation of the wind turbines is scheduled to begin in late summer 2027.
The cooperation agreement between 50Hertz and Skyborn “represents an essential addition and prerequisite for the planned commissioning of the grid connection system in July 2028”, 50Hertz stated.
