NKT unveils dry-type 245kV termination

NKT has launched its KFEV 245 dry-type outdoor termination to offer a safer and simpler alternative to oil-filled high-voltage cable accessories.

The company said the new termination addresses rising demand for dry-type solutions in modern power transmission systems.

According to NKT, oil-filled terminations still dominate the market but are increasingly being replaced for environmental and safety reasons.

“The demand in the market for high-voltage dry-type outdoor terminations has been increasing in recent years. High-voltage power cable systems can benefit from terminations that allow faster, easier, and safer installation. Dry-type terminations are more reliable and sustainable because they eliminate the risk of oil leaks, thereby minimising potential negative environmental impact” said Biswajit Singh, senior director, product management accessories at NKT.

The KFEV 245 uses a robust outdoor insulation system and NKT’s established plug-in technology combining a condenser bushing insulator with a silicone rubber stress control element.

“NKT’s KFEV 245 is not just an oil-free alternative for HVAC power cable systems, but its innovative pluggable design enables faster installation and helps reduce possible installation errors. The design also allows flexible mounting at various angles and removes the need for special handling at site” Singh added.

NKT said the KFEV 245 is now part of its high-voltage accessories portfolio covering the full HVAC range up to 550kV and is manufactured at its centre of excellence in Alingsas, Sweden.
