Renewable Power Capital and Greenfield have secured planning permission for the 30MW Coventry and 49MW Sudmeadow Road battery energy storage projects.
The partners said the approvals add 79MW to their portfolio, bringing the total progressed to more than 273MW across seven developments.
According to the companies, the projects follow planning consents gained in 2025 for Cardiff, Canalside, Sacketts Hill, Sudmeadow Road and Coventry.
The seven projects form a pipeline of battery infrastructure supporting a cleaner and more flexible electricity system.
Both new projects have secured grid connections and will connect to the distribution network once completed.
At Coventry, ecological enhancements outside the site compound will deliver a 13.97% gain in habitat units and a 51.30% gain in hedgerow units.
At Sudmeadow Road, the design delivers a 300% net biodiversity gain in linear units and a 10% gain in area units.
Sudmeadow Road is located on a brownfield site and Coventry on a grey belt site.
Renewable Power Capital senior vice president for UK and Poland development Cyrille Sokpor said: “RPC is thrilled to have secured an additional 79MW of energy storage to build on last year’s brilliant collaboration with Greenfield.”
Sokpor added: “Coventry and Sudmeadow Road will bring the partnership to an impressive 273MW of BESS. It is a pleasure working with partners who are equally committed to our goal of decarbonising the electricity system.”
Greenfield managing director David Ring said: “Securing consent for Coventry and Sudmeadow Road marks another important milestone in our partnership with RPC.”
Ring added: “These projects not only strengthen our shared commitment to accelerating the energy transition, but also demonstrate how responsible, well-designed infrastructure can deliver local and environmental benefits. We look forward to advancing the full 273MW pipeline together as we support the UK’s shift toward a cleaner and more flexible grid.”
